Over the past four years in working with churches, I have seen many attempt to shuffle out a number of “cure-all” programs that will pull their church out of decline.  Whether it is using the Purpose-Driven Church model, attempting to copy to contemporary worship style of the mega-church down the street or using one of those “church marketing” companies to flood everyone with postcards, I saw a frantic, shotgun approach to trying to connect with their community.

Here is the bad news…90% of the effort is a waste of time and money.

Why?  If you don’t know where you are going, it only takes a minute to get there and you probably won’t like the destination.  It is true in business, true in life and true for churches.

Why don’t we take the time to get to know our community before planning how to reach them?  Jesus took 30 years to understand his target before starting his ministry/  Why can’t we take 30 days?!

Many people don’t know where to start.  So I wrote a free e-book:  “Connecting with Your Community…Why God believes 1 > 99 and what the church needs to do about it.”

Here is why you should read it:

  • It provides theological support for your efforts (for those who hate the idea of church marketing.)
  • It provides a blueprint of understand your community in basic steps and layman terms.
  • It teaches how to build and use “personas” to create more relevant church programming for your community.
  • It’s got cool pictures and lots of bullet points (easy to read).
